Gunsmith, Armorer He is listed as the first English settler on the Penobscot River. He served as gunsmith and armorer for both George's Fort and Fort Pownal. He understood the Penobscot Indian language and accompanied Governor Pownal on his trip up the Penobscot river in 1759.
